With Mackay being the hub of the sugar and coal industry in Central Queensland the future outlook for population growth is positive. The region’s proximity to the Whitsunday passage and Great Barrier Reef also underlie strong prospects for tourism growth. Is unlikely that sites with absolute beachfront location with the ability to encompass a commercial component to the development will become frequently available which underpins the value of this unique site.
This positive outlook is evident by the recent significant Government (both State and Federal Government) infrastructure spending in this region:
- $70 million in 2017-18 for the construction of the Mackay Ring Road – this is a $498 million project in partnership with the Australian Government.
- $40M upgrade of Whitsunday Region Airport to increase flights in and out of the region
